Skycharted

Meteor shower tonight? Know exactly when and where to watch: your best hour, which way to face, how many you'll really see, and a wake-up for the 2am peak.

Meteor showers are easy to miss. The peak can fall at 3am, the radiant can sit low until after midnight, and moonlight can drown all but a handful of them. Skycharted does that arithmetic for your exact spot on Earth and hands you a meteor shower forecast you can act on.

SKY EVENTS, PLANNED FOR WHERE YOU STAND
• Every major meteor shower: Quadrantids, Lyrids, Eta Aquariids, Perseids, Orionids, Leonids, Geminids and more
• Lunar and solar eclipses, listed only when they're visible from your location, with local times for every phase
• Full moons and supermoons, with moonrise time and direction
• Close pairings of the Moon and bright planets over the coming weeks

For each one Skycharted works out the best viewing window, which compass direction to face, how high the radiant climbs, a realistic meteors-per-hour figure, and whether the Moon is up to spoil it. Tap "Find it in the sky" and the camera view points you straight at the radiant, the Moon or the planet.

The full plan for the next meteor shower, every night of its active window: best hour, which way to face and how much the Moon interferes. "How dark is your sky?" shows how many you'll really see from a city, suburb, rural spot or dark site, and every calendar row says whether it's a good year or not. Tonight's other events and their plans, the event calendar, the constellation collection, the sky pointer (it works without the camera too), image share cards and a daily dusk note about what's up are free for everyone, with no ads.
