From a tiny asteroid to the largest galaxy, all rendered in true-to-size 3D. New content: 30 space simulations (19 real events + 11 "what-if" stories), tonight’s sky, "Realistic" graphics quality, and daily celestial objects with streaks.
3D Universe Size Comparison: See how big planets, stars, black holes, and galaxies really are, presented side-by-side at true scale.
Cosmic Scale arranges 77 celestial bodies in order from smallest to largest, from a 490-meter-wide asteroid to the Oort Cloud; adding the Deep Space Expansion pack brings the total to 137, including galaxies, nebulae, and the largest structures in the universe.
Compare any two
“The Sun is 109 times wider than Earth and could hold about 1.3 million Earths.” Select any two celestial bodies to view side-by-side at true scale; or add 2 to 6 bodies to “My List” to arrange them together.
30 Space Simulations
Cosmic Scale is also a space simulator. 19 simulations use real data to show what truly happens in space: pulsars, Earth’s magnetic shield, the death of the Sun, a black hole tearing apart a star, two types of supernovae, the birth and merger of black holes, neutron star collisions, magnetar flares, quasars, gravitational lensing, GRB 221009A, Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 impacting Jupiter, the asteroid that ended the dinosaurs, the birth of a star, S301 near the black hole at the center of the Milky Way, the collision of the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies, and the Big Bang. Anything not visible to the naked eye is illustrated and marked as such.
What Ifs
11 stories follow theories to places no one has ever observed: the Sun becoming a black hole, vacuum decay, a world without the Moon, wormholes, warp drive, falling into a black hole, and more.
Visible to the Naked Eye
Many simulations can also play as short videos, retaining only the light your eyes can capture, presenting true colors.
