FlickerSpec is the only iPhone app built for professionals who need defensible, documented light flicker measurements that comply with IEEE 1789-2015.
Clinical engineers auditing OR suites, biomedical staff documenting NICU lighting, lighting designers commissioning healthcare and education projects, and electrical contractors producing compliance records all work the same way: measure every fixture, record the results, attach a traceable calibration reference, and produce a report a surveyor can read. FlickerSpec handles the entire workflow on one device.
--- WHAT IT MEASURES ---
FlickerSpec uses your iPhone's 240fps camera to capture light output from any LED, fluorescent, or incandescent fixture. Its C++ signal processing core computes:
- Percent Flicker: per IEEE 1789-2015
- Flicker Index: per IEEE 1789-2015
- Dominant Frequency: in Hz, resolved via FFT
- Signal-to-Noise Ratio: dB confidence estimate
- Pass / Fail: against the IEEE 1789-2015 threshold table at the measured frequency
Every measurement displays a real-time luminance waveform and FFT spectrum on the live viewfinder, so you can verify signal quality before you commit a result.
--- CALIBRATION WITH TRACEABLE CERTIFICATES ---
Before measuring, run a one-time calibration against the companion web app (no hardware required — any laptop, monitor, or second phone works). FlickerSpec generates a timestamped calibration certificate with a unique ID, your device model, app version, reference frequency, measured frequency, and error margin. That certificate attaches to every subsequent measurement report, giving your documentation the traceability chain an accreditation surveyor expects to see.
Certificate validity is configurable (default 30 days). Calibration history is stored on device with full pass/fail audit trail.
--- PROFESSIONAL REPORTING ---
Every committed measurement can be exported as a PDF report that includes:
- Company name, logo, and contact information
- Fixture photo and FFT spectrum chart
- All measurement values with units
- Explicit PASS or FAIL badge with IEEE 1789-2015 citation and the specific threshold applied
- Calibration certificate reference and validity dates
- GPS coordinates and location label
- Uncertainty estimate
Session summary reports aggregate all measurements from a single facility visit into one document — one row per fixture, a pass/fail count, and individual pages for each measurement.
CSV export is also available for analysis in Excel or any external tool.
--- SESSIONS AND LOGGING ---
Organize measurements into sessions by facility and client. Each session captures the facility name, client name, and date, and groups all measurements from that visit. Switch between sessions at any time. Measurement records include a fixture photo, GPS coordinates, user-entered location label (room number, fixture ID), and notes.
All data is stored locally on device. No account required. No cloud dependency.
--- FREE TIER ---
The free tier gives you the full live measurement display: real-time waveform, FFT spectrum, dominant frequency, confidence indicator, and achieved frame rate — all without creating an account. The free tier is a complete measurement tool if you only need spot readings.
--- PRO UPGRADE ($149.99, ONE-TIME) ---
Pro unlocks measurement logging, PDF report generation, CSV export, and calibration certificate generation. One payment, permanent access, no subscription.
--- DESIGNED FOR ---
