HONKI by MADZINE

HONKI is an eight-track groove box for iPad. Four melodic tracks and four drum tracks each carry their own sound source, sequencer segments, mixer channel and modulation routing, across five full-screen pages in landscape.

SOUND SOURCES

Each track selects one of four sources.

SYNTH: internal oscillator engine. Melodic tracks provide OCT, TUNE, SWEEP, BEND, FOLD, FEEDBACK, TONE and MODULATION with wavetable selection. Drum tracks run dedicated drum voices.

SAMPLE: sample player with granular playback. GRAIN SIZE, DENSITY, SPRAY, JITTER, grain shape, PITCH and GAIN, plus loop / one-shot and reverse.

RESO: physically modelled resonator driven by sequencer pitch and gate, with STRUCTURE, BRIGHTNESS, POSITION and DAMPING, selectable model and polyphony. External audio can excite it directly.

AU: any AUv3 instrument installed on the iPad, hosted per track with its own editor view.

SEQUENCER

Each pattern holds 8 segments per track, up to 64 steps each, played as a linear timeline with START/END range or locked to a single chained segment. Ten patterns per bank.

Notes carry pitch, velocity, gate length and probability. Per-step LOCK gates a shift-register regeneration model: locked steps stay, unlocked steps are rewritten each pass, with density weighted by a selectable style profile.

16 built-in scales plus a user scale editor. User scales are stored inside the bank, so old files keep working after you delete a scale.

Drum tracks carry up to 3 voice lanes per step. 32 phrase slots per track for storing and recalling material. 100 steps of undo and redo.

MIXER

Eight vertical channel strips: EQ with a draggable response curve, sidechain with selectable source and amount, per-track LOCK, DECAY and DENSITY, three pre-fader sends (DELAY, REVERB, TEXTURE), an INT/EXT crossfade, output fader, mute and solo.

Global delay (left, right, feedback, return) and reverb (size, damp, decay, return). TEXTURE is a granular send and return processor. MASTER FX hosts a chain of AUv3 effects on the output bus.

MODULATION AND CONTROL

UTILITY page: three LFOs with waveform morph and shape control, an eight-stage envelope sequencer with per-stage curve and sync, and a 4x4 modulation matrix feeding four outputs, each with its own oscilloscope and output channel assignment.

PERFORM page: build your own control surface. Place knobs, buttons and faders, map each control to up to 8 parameters with individual ranges, and modulate each control from the four utility sources. Includes a segment overview with direct mute and solo.

MOTION: arm REC and record parameter movement per segment. Global effect automation is stored per pattern.

INPUT AND OUTPUT

Audio input from a connected interface is routed into the tracks, with a delay compensation control for monitoring alignment.

CV output through a DC-coupled multichannel interface: per-track pitch and envelope channels, plus the four assignable modulation outputs from the matrix.

MIDI output over CoreMIDI, including a virtual source that other apps can subscribe to directly. MIDI input with learn-based mapping onto any control.

RECORDING

REC writes eight dry stem WAV files plus a master WAV of the processed output for every session. Files are written to the app's Documents folder and are reachable from the Files app.

The sampler resamples the master bus or any external input, up to 120 seconds, straight into a track.

Banks and the 32 program slots export as a single .honki file.

HONKI runs in landscape on iPad. There is no in-app purchase and no subscription.
