My Soliloquy

Speak for a few minutes and read back an essay in your own words.

Soliloquy writes down what you say, then edits it. Your words appear on screen as you talk, with the ums, stutters and half-finished starts already removed. When you tap End, the app works back through the session and returns it as a titled essay in paragraphs.

Nothing you say leaves your iPhone. There is no sign-in and no server.

HOW IT WORKS

While you speak, the transcript is tidied automatically and transcribes your words to text

When you finish, a language model running on your iPhone edits the transcript one passage at a time, keeping each passage in the order you said it. Working in passages instead of all at once is what stops a long session coming back as a summary. A last pass gives the essay its title.

You set how far the editing goes on a five-step control. Verbatim strips fillers and never runs the model at all. Balanced also splits run-on sentences and adds paragraphs. Essay rewrites your talking into flowing prose. The raw transcript is saved next to every finished piece, so you can check what you actually said.

PRIVACY

Speech recognition runs on your device. The writing model runs on your device. There is no account to create, and the app ships no analytics code. It makes one network request in its life, to download the writing model, and after that it works with the network switched off.

BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD

The writing model is about 1.8 GB and downloads once over Wi-Fi before your first essay. Running it needs a recent device, so an iPhone 15 Pro or newer is recommended.
